World Gone Dead - good news and bad news

HIYA FOLKS. Thanks for withstanding the frenzy of promotion crap I've been doing recently. A number of circumstances have been aligning recently, none of them negative but having irritating side effects. In truth, Lich King's stock is shooting up right now and luck has been with us. Big things are in the works and I know I've been saying that for a while, but it's true.

So here's the bad news. World Gone Dead is getting delayed. Last you'd heard, it was coming out in mid-November. Now, it's looking like it'll be available in late January. There are two reasons. Our label dude has a trip coming up and he realized he'd only be able to process a few preorders before he has to leave for about three months. That means you couldn't have received your album until January without preordering anyway. The second reason is that we've decided to rerecord the album- the entire thing, minus solos and vocals (with luck) with the new, permanent live band. I've ditched the studio musician dicks whose arms can't stand up to heavy chugging. What with these guys being serious thrashers and now being the live band, I thought I might as well have them rerecord their parts for the album. Apparently the drummer's got some recording space and production knowledge and he can make it sound like it wasn't mixed by... y'know... me. The end result is going to be tighter and I think much better.

The above contains some of the good news. Here's more.

With the time we've got, now, we might just forge another song for the album. I'm starting to think up concepts.

Lich King live shows, teased back in late august, have been in the works since May. Not much has actually been done to further these until recently, when I shifted focus from the halfhearted studio guys Toxic Holocaust-style to this new group of guys. They're practicing feverishly, they sound great, we think alike and I no longer feel like the only member of the band. Apparently we're going to be ready for shows in December. I'm booking stuff now and hope to have some shows to announce soon. They'll mostly be in and around this area as we stretch our legs.

We just need that bassist.

I'm officially feeling out another new wave band on whether they'd be up for a tour. So far they've ignored my message. Let's see how long they let that go before I start flinging poo.

Lich King needs a bassist

If you play bass, like to thrash, can commute to the western MA area and aren't a douchebag, east coast thrash titans Lich King want to hear from you. You must have your own gear and be available to tour and travel. Live experience would be a plus.

Email lichkingmetal@gmail.com to set up an audition. Things are rolling fast so get moving.

Your artwork in the WORLD GONE DEAD booklet

This is an open call to all LK fans. Send in a doodle, oil painting, charcoal sketch, whatever to me and we'll put the best stuff in the new album's CD booklet. Here are the guidelines.

• Have the art be of the King doing something awesome, or of some other subject that ties in to LK songs or mythology or whatever.

• We're not necessarily looking for good art. Crappy art is just as fun. Do stick figures if you have to.

• Make the art big. 300 DPI is optimal. A tiny, shitty jpeg won't cut it.

• Submit the art to lichkingmetal@gmail.com asap. There's no deadline just yet, but make it soon.

• You're not getting paid and there's no prize for the best submission. Deal with it.

Obviously your art will live on through the centuries as this classic album is reprinted, remastered and reissued in perpetuity. This is your chance at immortality, so jump at it you spineless worm.

TERROR CONSUMES is up... at last

Just put up the demo version of TERROR CONSUMES. This version's been around for about a half a year while I waited on the celebrity guest vocalist... who wound up letting me know he was no longer interested by ignoring repeated emails. Thanks dude.

So these vocals are the dummy vocals I put in just to show where the vocals went, and they're not so shabby. As it's a demo, almost everything's getting rerecorded.

Hell, I just realized this version might not even have the bass track. Funny.

What mind can't devour itself?
Atrophied ego, degenerate cells
Just beyond the curtain of dark
An unknown number, an unseen attack

Suggestions of something beyond
Moving about in dark attic rooms
Subconscious thought working against
Your own will
Terror Consumes

Dread's geometric design
Evolution's byproduct, sickening fear
The mind simply cannot abide
All of the things that it can't stop creating

Branches black against the sky
Brain is imprisoned and skull is a tomb
Beckoning arms of the night
Calling you
Terror Consumes

Terror Consumes

No release from horror
Recreation recombines
Charming by the light of day
By night it realigns

Anxiety will overcome
And all the world's askew
You can't see the ghost
But be assured, the ghost sees you

Pale radiance as day breaks again
Heaving a sigh as the witch takes its leave
Go hide in the hours of the sun
But time is a cycle, it's finite, and soon is it spent

On the horizon the sun
Is dying and red in a worsening gloom
You will return to the house
that you built

3rd album update

I gave an update a while back. Here's an updated update. The songs for the third album are currently (and in no particular order)

Terror Consumes
ED-209

Lich King III

A Storm of Swords
Waste

Act of War

annnd one that I finalized the arrangement for today. It might make the first track. It's called... Behaver.

We're unsure at this point as to whether the Aggressive Perfector cover is going in there or what... We're not too worried about it. Also? We might put on Grindwheel, which is a song we did about three or four years back, before we ever got serious about this stuff. It's got a slower sludgy thing going on. I think I can heavy it up a bit. There's no current title for the album. We're batting around some ideas.

The cover art is in progress and is about half done. I expect it to be done sometime over the next month. Here's a hint: It features the Lich King. It also features zombies. Gasp! Spoiler alert, LOL

So there, yer updated. Shaddap.

Twitter is awful.

I hate it. That said, I'm a marketing fool and have to sell this horseshit to you slobbering fans somehow. Follow Lich King on twitter.com/LichKingMetal.

Also, become a fan of us on Facebook. I'd give an address if Facebook could figure out how to make the URL easy. Just search for LICH KING, filter out the shitty Warcraft pages and that's us. You could also search for THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIME.

A big development happened today. It may lead to things. Certain things. Certain things that won't get mentioned now. Stay tuned.

Updates on the next few songs

That's right, the next FEW songs.

We're writing and writing and practicing and writing. The new stuff is coming along nicely. ED-209 is the most Lich King-ey of the new stuff, and by that I mean that it's the most in keeping with the goofy fun feel and the familiar song structure. The new stuff is darker, it's faster, it's a bit more influenced by the evil mexican / southern californian bands. I know I've complained about that style but I tried adding some to the mix one day- just a taste- and we liked how it sounded. Consider us influenced. Slightly. You'll hear it.

There are three songs in the hopper right now. The first two are ready to go, pending inclusion of their respective celebrity guest stars' tracks. The first one to make it through will likely be the cover of a thrash classic featuring our pal Michael Ellero of Canada's RAZORWIRE popping in for a solo.

The second song is called TERROR CONSUMES. This is a dark one and a departure for us in both songwriting and lyrics. The music is, as mentioned, a bit more mexi-thrashy than our regular fare. The lyrics are going beyond monsters and machines and 80's action flicks, into our first forays into mental anguish. Have you noticed how most bands' first albums are all about serial killers and thrashing, and the third is a lot more introspective with songs about paranoia, fear and control? We're definitely feeling that kind of maturity and this song will be the first of that sort. TERROR CONSUMES is specifically about fear.

I don't want to mention who the celebrity guest vocalist is for this one, mostly because the celebrity guests tend to back out and I'd like to keep from hyping someone this good. The song was written with his style in mind and if he does it, it's going to sound cooooool.

The third is one we're maybe only halfway through writing, and it's a long way off from being ready. This one's WASTE. It's about being crushed by your own shortcomings... or at least it's about me yelling at myself for mine.

I have a dozen or so riffs waiting to see if they'll make it into future songs, and a handful of titles and ideas. One will be A STORM OF SWORDS, based on the book of the same name. Another that's definitely being done eventually is LICH KING III. Doing sort of an Overkill thing with that one... sequels. The ongoing tale of the mascot in his bid to rule everything.

There you go, your nipples are now sufficiently erect from all this teaser info about the third album. I can't say when it'll be done. It'll probably be early 2010, squeezing this into 2009's probably a little unrealistic. As to the title? I dunno. I know what I'm doing for the cover art... but I'm not saying.
